Asbestos found dumped in Nottingham

Asbestos found dumped in Nottingham
A Nottingham shopkeeper has revealed she was shocked to find the city council did not have to remove a pile of asbestos which had been dumped, it has been reported.

Karen Wales, a director at A1 Windows, told the Nottingham Evening Post that she reported a pile of the material to the council, after discovering fly-tippers had left a mound of the substance on a road used by schoolchildren, which may concern those considering asbestos training.

However, she was told that Nottingham City Council did not have to remove the asbestos, as it was on a private road which is managed by the shops.

Ms Wales told the news provider: "I'm astounded. With it being dangerous I would have expected them to sort it straightaway."

The local council agreed to remove the material after it was contacted by the newspaper, with a spokesperson saying it had done so to help the shopkeepers.

Last month, the Health and Safety Executive announced it will work with industry partners in South Yorkshire and the Humber to deliver asbestos training events for small construction businesses.
