Council warned over asbestos in school

Council warned over asbestos in school
A county council faces prosecution if it does not take action to remove asbestos from a local high school.

Denbighshire local authority has been ordered to remove the substance from Prestatyn High School by the end of September or face criminal prosecution.

The order was made after an inspection by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found earlier removal efforts to be insufficient and is understood to relate to asbestos pipe cladding.

A county council spokeswoman says: "An action plan is already being implemented and we shall be meeting the HSE to ensure compliance with their requirements."

"We can confirm that a member of staff has been suspended pending the results of an internal investigation," she says.

The HSE confirmed it issued a notice to the council on June 27th.

Over 300 schools in the region still contain asbestos, the Daily Post North Wales has reported.
