HSE holds health and safety awareness day
September 16, 2008

A leading health and safety watchdog is to hold an awareness day near Stoke-on-Trent for members of the construction industry.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will seek to raise the profile of topics such as working at height, manual handling issues and asbestos in refurbishment.
It is being organised by the Staffordshire and Shropshire Working Well Together Group and will run for half a day.
The topics have been chosen as key issues affecting construction, building or contracting companies.
According to HSE statistics, falls killed 23 workers last year and left another 3,409 seriously injured.
It is expected the number to die from asbestos will reach 5,000 in the nearby future, with refurbishment workers especially at risk.
The awareness day will be running on October 2nd and is free of charge.
A similar event was held at Haydock Park earlier this month which concentrated on health and safety precautions to protect those working at height, with noise, vibration or asbestos.
