Inquest confirms death by asbestos exposure
November 21, 2007

An inquest has heard that a man from Barnoldswick died as a result of exposure to asbestos within the workplace.
According to reports by Pendle Today, the employee died after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, a condition that is alleged to have been caused by continued exposure to asbestos, including direct exposure to brown asbestos.
Mesothelioma is known to affect both the lining of the lungs and peritoneum, a part of the body that surrounds the lower digestive tract.
"Nobody understood in those days the effect asbestos would have," said Richard Taylor, coroner for East Lancashire.
"However, 30 years of exposure to asbestos sadly led to [this man's] death. I therefore record a verdict of death caused by industrial disease," he added.
A number of other diseases have been linked with asbestos, including diffuse pleural thickening and asbestos warts.
