Jewson and HSE join to combat asbestos risks
November 18, 2008

A leading construction supplier has formed a partnership with a national watchdog in order to encourage better precautions to be taken by those at risk of encountering asbestos at work.
In the Barnsley area, Jewson and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have joined together to raise awareness of the problems the substance can cause tradesmen.
Kevin Crawley, the health and safety director at the timber and building materials supplier, claims the firm is "ideally placed" to spread the HSE's message about safe practice while dealing with asbestos.
"Asbestos represents a significant danger to those in the construction industry, which is why it is crucial that all those who operate within it are made aware of the associated dangers," he says.
The HSE's regional director for Yorkshire and Humber Dr David Snowball recently claimed educating workers about the risks presented by asbestos would lead to necessary changes in the way tradesmen work.
