Widow launches asbestos-related legal battle
November 21, 2007

A widow in Teesside has started legal proceedings against ICI Chemicals and Polymers in Cheshire after the death of her husband.
According to reports by the Evening Gazette, the widow is taking legal action against the firm after the death of her husband from mesothelioma, a form of cancer known to be related to asbestos.
The level of compensation being sought is believed to be in excess of £300,000.
"Most of the people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos fibres. Working with asbestos is the major risk factor for mesothelioma," said the UK's Health and Safety Executive.
"The typically long delay between first exposure to asbestos and death from mesothelioma means that deaths occurring now reflect industrial conditions of the past," it added.
The widow's husband passed away in December last year.
