Call for safety passports to reduce accidents
May 19, 2008

The boss of a Warwickshire construction firm has claimed that the industry needs to introduce safety passports in order to reduce the number of accidents happening on sites.
Ray Gibbs, from Safety Pass Alliance, claims that the building industry should introduce the measures in response to the rising accident toll in the sector, according to the Coventry Telegraph.
He added that the scheme had been implemented successfully in other industries and believes the idea would benefit the construction sector.
"We genuinely believe its adoption will reduce accidents. Many large companies in other business sectors are now fully embracing the passport culture and are insisting that visiting contractors' employees must hold safety passports for their industry," he told the newspaper.
Deaths on construction sites made up around 32 per cent of all workplace fatalities last year.
A building worker who suffered serious injuries while at work recently told the Sheffield Telegraph how he still has not recovered from the incident, five years after it happened.
