Construction companies commit to safety training
January 11, 2008

Thousands of supervisors on construction sites are to receive health and safety training after a plea from the Major Contractors Group (MCG) for its member to increasingly be aware of safety in the workplace.
Sector skills council, ConstructionSkills is to offer training to all MCG members.
Vaughan Burnand, chief executive of Shepherd Construction and Chairman of the MCG Health and Safety group, welcomed the news.
"Our front line supervisors assume huge responsibility and we are very pleased to have been working with ConstructionSkills in the development of a course designed specifically to help these supervisors fulfil these responsibilities," he said.
ConstructionSkills' two-day site supervisors' safety training scheme is part of the organisation's Site Safety Plus scheme.
It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues for industry employees and is designed to help supervisors acquire an understanding of the current legislation that applies to their work activities.
The MCG was established in 1996 and has 12 members including the Costain Group and Bovis Lend Lease.
