HSE informed of building site accident

HSE informed of building site accident
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed of an accident leading to a workman being hospitalised, a source says.

While the man was working on a building site at a private school he was hit by a falling block of concrete, reports the Manchester Evening News.

He was struck at the Bolton School and is believed to have suffered back and rib injuries.

Workmates called for medical assistance and he was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital by air ambulance.

A police spokesperson believes the man's injuries are unlikely to be fatal.

The block fell from the top of the private school, an approximate height of 20 feet, and weighed three stone.

According to the newspaper, the circumstances of the incident are unclear, and the HSE has been notified of the accident.

During the last 25 years, the organisation has recorded nearly 3,000 deaths occurring in the construction industry.

It describes the sector as "one of the most dangerous".
