Roof collapse injuries 13 pupils
May 13, 2009

Year nine pupils at Minster College on the Isle of Sheppey were sitting their exams in the sports hall when a heating duct collapsed on them.
Six of the students were taken to hospital by the emergency service, with four suffering from serious injuries to their neck, head or back.
Sam Millen, a 13-year-old pupil at the school, told reporters that the roof fell in after the exam had been underway for around 20 minutes, with the structure collapsing in "five to ten seconds".
Minster College headteacher Alan Klee commented: "We were very lucky indeed. Most of the students have escaped with just cuts and bruises and are being discharged from the hospital as I speak."
She added that regular maintenance checks had been carried out on the sports hall and its safety had never been an issue.
Last month, Nottingham crown court fined a developer £10,000 after he admitted breaking the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, following an incident which saw a building collapse.
