Scaffolding safety day to be held

October 2, 2008

Scaffolding safety day to be held
An awareness day to raise the level of safety for those working at height is being held in Lancashire and Cumbria.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to concentrate on scaffolding safety in order to reduce the number of workplace accidents poor practise causes.

It will hold a day on Tuesday October 7th which will target those in senior management positions.

Construction inspector for the organisation Dave Charnock states safe systems of work and techniques to protect the public will be covered as part of the day.

Other issues will include design requirements for the structures, harness use, tying patterns and problems arising from drilling.

Equipment inspection and rescue planning will also feature.

"We want to help companies avoid problems with scaffolds and effective health and safety management," Mr Charnock claims.

The event will be held at Truckhaven in Carnforth and will start at 08:30 BST.

Last month, a firm in Staffordshire was fined £2,000 after its workers modified scaffolding and made working at height from the structure unsafe.ADNFCR-1336-ID-18808060-ADNFCR
