SEMA and CSCS form joint initiative
April 16, 2008

Safety levels on construction sites have been targeted by a new initiative between the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).
The aim of the plan is to provide training on the importance of the SEMA Codes of Practice which concern areas of legislation and a safe system of work.
Workers installing equipment on sites controlled by the Major Contractors Group must demonstrate knowledge of general health and safety, as well as operating to the storage equipment industry guidelines.
All installers will now need the Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme (SEIRS) qualification prior to their application for the CSCS ID card.
Gordon Jenkins of the CSCS told Materials Handling World: "We are delighted to be working with SEMA and the SEIRS initiative to promote safe practice on our construction sites where storage equipment is being installed."
The SEIRS initiative, which is supported by the Health and Safety Executive, aims to maintain and improve health and safety.
