Essex councils join HSE in 'myth busting'
October 15, 2008

County councils across Essex have joined a scheme in an attempt to dismiss myths about health and safety.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be co-ordinating the efforts to prevent these misconceptions "undermining" the effect of legislation.
Each of the organisations have signed up to an agreement entitled Ten Principles of Sensible Risk Management.
HSE head of operations for the east Geoff Baker claims popular perceptions about health and safety regulations are frequently unfounded.
"We've all heard the stories about health and safety banning hanging baskets or making children wear goggles to play conkers," he explains.
Mr Baker says it is important people focus on the real issues and attempt to reduce the risk of injury or death as far as possible.
"We do not want to stop people from living their lives," he says.
Last month, Harrogate borough council signed up to the scheme and launched its partnership with the HSE at the opening ceremony of a £60,000 park.
