Scotland govt reveals health and safety problem
The Scottish parliament has stood by a decision not to release details of a health and safety issue.

Officials claimed there was "no risk" to anyone at the Holyrood building when bacteria which can cause legionnaires' disease were discovered in its water supply, which may interest those considering COSHH training.

The bacteria were found in two water outlets, which were said to be "seldom used", and the contaminated source was cleaned after tests in June 2008 proved the contagion was present.

Alex Johnstone, a Conservative member of the Scottish Parliament, commented: "It's been taken as a lesson for the future. I'd be surprised if anything like this happened again."

However, members of the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body, Holyrood's management group, said they should have been told about the health and safety issue when it occurred.

Earlier this week, the Wandsworth Guardian reported that patients at the town's Springfield Hospital were moved to another facility after a 95-year-old woman died of legionnaires' disease.
