Food manufacturer fined GBP65000 after workers hand is crushed

Ludmila Jurkevica, 27, from Kings Lynn, was attempting to clear a blockage in a Multivac packing machine at the companys site in Norfolk, when the incident happened on 27 November 2007.
The investigation found the machine did not have the required guarding and the company had not provided sufficient training.
Tulip Ltd, with its headquarters at Warwick Technology Park, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. It admitted failing to prevent access to dangerous parts of the machinery and failing to make a sufficient risk assessment of the Multivac machine.
At Norwich Crown Court on 4th November 2009, the company was fined £65,000 and ordered to pay costs of £29,523.
