Man loses arm in workplace accident
June 2, 2008

Oliver Britton was changing the roll of fabric on a machine when a colleague started the apparatus, resulting in Mr Britton's arm becoming trapped.
He was taken to hospital with several compound fractures and following 11 hours of surgery his arm was amputated.
Airbags International Limited pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ensure a person not in their employment was not exposed to health and safety risks, as outlined in Section 3 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Iain Evans said Mr Britton lost his arm through no fault of his own and urged other bosses to make sure such incidents are not repeated.
"This should serve as a timely warning to all companies that they have a clear responsibility to ensure the health and safety of their workforce. There is plenty of guidance available from within the industry," he stated.
According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the responsibility of temporary workers is with the company to whom they have been assigned to.
