Two companies pay nearly GBP 58,000 after glass accident
September 10, 2008

Two companies have been fined after an accident in which a lorry driver was injured beneath a 600 kg glass panel.
Scheldebouw UK is being fined £20,000 and Brookfield Construction £18,000, with costs of £10,000 and £9,962 respectively.
John Rooney sustained a broken pelvis at a construction site when he was helping a contractor from another firm load glass onto its lorry and was crushed.
The vehicle was parked on an uneven road at the time of the incident.
Brookfield owns the site of the accident and Scheldebouw the lorry where it took place.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Lisa Chappell claims the injury could have been avoided if a suitable risk assessment had been made.
She says: "This incident once again highlights the need for contractors to ensure that all aspects of lifting and removal operations are fully planned and measures to work safely are clearly communicated to all workers."
It was recently reported by the Press and Journal a man was crushed at a garden centre while trying to unload a lorry's cargo of steel bars.
The HSE is investigating the circumstances of the accident.
