Ceilings and walls present new fire safety risks
February 14, 2008

Fire hazards presented by ceilings and painted walls could mean thousands of businesses need to update their health and safety standards.
Ian Williams, a property services company said that many businesses are not aware of how new legislation, brought into force in 2006, affects them and what they may need to do to comply.
A recent seminar from the firm given in Bristol provided information on fire-related risks and how to solve them for property managers including council officers and housing associations
Speaking to buildingtalk.co.uk, Lucy Deacon, business development executive for Ian Williams, said: "'The two-hour session was a way of getting across the messages about fire safety and the changes in the rules which came into force in October 1996."
Under the terms of the recently-updated Fire Safety Order 2005, which came into force in October 2006, property managers or owners are responsible for ensuring the safety of people using their premises.
Meanwhile, according to a new survey from the Fire Industry Association, up to three quarters of fire safety professionals admit to being "unsure" about regulations.
