Enforcement notices served on Preston firm after explosion
February 25, 2008

A Preston firm has been forced to improve its fire safety record after explosions occurred on site last year.
Three enforcement notices have been served by fire officials on waste management firm Veolia Environmental Services following an incident last summer.
Prosecution could also be forthcoming from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after the blast which led to roads gridlocked, schools closed and fears over health and safety risks for a full 24 hours after the accident took place.
Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post following an investigation into the blast, a spokeswoman for Lancashire Combined Fire Service said it had issued the three notices, under the Regulatory Reform Order 2005.
He said: "As far as the authority is concerned, the matter is now closed and we are happy that the necessary precautions have now been put in place."
The notices were the result of a combined investigation by the HSE and the Environment Agency but the former said Veolia may yet face a criminal prosecution over the incident from the government pending further investigation.
