Explosion hospitalises couple
June 20, 2008

A man and a woman are in hospital after an explosion at Mapperton Farm near Beaminster, it has been reported.
The man, named as Mr Montero by the Dorset Echo, suffered first-degree burns to his face and upper body while the lady in question, his wife Jenny, was left with superficial burns.
It is thought the explosion was caused by a detached gas pipe in one of the 110 pheasant huts on the farm.
Mr Montero's injuries are said to be life threatening and the Earl of Sandwich, who owns the farm, told the newspaper the employee was going about his usual business when the incident occurred.
"From what I gather Mike was attending to the rearing field, as he does on a regular basis, and went to investigate one of the huts where he thought there might have been a faulty connection in the gas canister," he said.
The Health and Safety Executive and Dorset crime scene investigators have carried out inspections of the site, the news provider added.
Agriculture accounted for 16 per cent of fatal injuries suffered by workers in 2005 to 2006.
