Fire risk management for SouthGate HSE investigation
October 2, 2008

Members of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are continuing to make enquiries into unnecessary fire risks at a retail centre in Bath which was damaged in a recent blaze, a source reveals.
The HSE investigation is ongoing at the SouthGate development, which caught fire during the asphalting of Block B's roof last week, CNPlus.co.uk reports.
A tar heater burst into flames and four gas canisters exploded on the site.
The retail location belongs to construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine and according to the news provider residents who lived nearby were evacuated after the fire broke out.
A spokesperson for the HSE claims the organisation will be examining how fire risks were managed at the site.
"[It is] seeking to establish how the fire occurred and identify key learning points from this incident which can be carried across to other construction sites," the representative tells the source.
Last month, Norwich Union Risk Services warned businesses their waste management policies were likely to increase fire risks at their business sites.
