Over a thousand hotels breaching fire safety rules
March 27, 2008

More than 1,200 hotels and bed and breakfasts have been informed by fire professionals that they are not doing enough to look out for the health and safety of guests.
According to new data, accessed by the Liberal Democrats via the act, over one in 20 of businesses were classified as unsafe when audited by their local Fire Service.
Julia Goldsworthy, Liberal Democrat shadow communities and local government secretary, said the results were very worrying.
"Employees and customers are being put at risk because firms are not receiving enough support to ensure they are protected from the risk of fires," she said.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, since October 2006, firms have had to ensure they implement fire safety measures such as checking that wiring is safe, that smoke alarms are working and making sure there are a sufficient number of fire exits.
