2nd ATP to be implemented in October
September 23, 2008

New regulations for chemical classifications and labelling will likely be coming into force next month.
A second Adaptation to Technical Progress (ATP) will be brought into effect from October 1st and will modify how substances are classified.
The Dangerous Preparations Directive establishes the risk mixtures present and ensures the same labelling restrictions are in place throughout the European Union.
ATPs ensure this set of classifying criteria is kept up-to-date with industry progression.
The Health and Safety Executive says the modification was supposed to be incorporated in March 2007 but claims it was unable to do so for "technical reasons".
It states it has completed a public consultation on the 2nd ATP and expects the amendment to be introduced on target.
This will be achieved through modification of the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2002.
Chemical regulations are governed by Control of Substances Hazardous to Health guidelines.
