Hearing begins against trader

The hearing against a Kent-based trader will begin from 10:00 GMT today (December 10th), it has emerged.
According to information released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the trader is alleged to have specifically targeted elderly individuals, in addition to those believed to be vulnerable, engaging in work that could have led to poisoning by carbon monoxide.
"The HSE allege [the defendant] breached Section 1(1) of the Employers' Liability Act 1969 by not having the correct insurance in place for the workers he employed," said the HSE.
"Mr Smith is also accused of two breaches of Regulation 8(1) of the Gas Safety Regulations 1998," it added.
This case is the product of an investigation conducted by Kent County Council's Trading Standards, in partnership with the HSE.
The HSE was established as a consequence of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
