HSE hits back against claims it ignored recommendations
March 31, 2008

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has hit back at claims it ignored a series of recommendations on the issue of multiple registers from the Frontline gas review.
Frontline Consultants, the 2006 gas industry Fundamental Review advisers, have alleged that that by appointing a single provider to administer the reformed gas installer registration scheme the HSE did not take into consideration the views of the industry as a whole.
In a statement to H&V News, the heating and ventilating contractors association website the body said that recommendations from Frontline requested that there should continue to be one registration scheme which is still taking place.
"The proposals for the new gas installer registration scheme and the competition to deliver it are designed to add value to consumer gas safety and improve on current arrangements," the statement continued.
It added that the HSE and Lord Mackensie made the decision on the single provider and concluded that multiple registrars could work with Corgi.
Corgi is the national watchdog for gas safety in the UK and provides an up-to-date register of qualified gas installers.
