Transport companies to receive health and safety advice
February 28, 2008

A series of free events are to be held in Newport next month to emphasise the importance of health and safety to haulage and distribution companies.
Practical advice on risk assessment, demonstrations on forklift safety and the use of new technology such as CCTV aids will be available from the events, organised by the Health and Safety Executive and local authorities, which are aimed at those businesses which have to manage transport in the workplace.
Michael Thomas, HSE principal inspector, said that transport related accidents account for around 2,500 major injuries in the workplace every year.
"What many companies fail to realise is that preventative measures are often extremely simple to implement, providing they focus on the three key principles of safe site, safe driver and safe vehicles," he said.
The seminars are part of the Moving Goods Safely which is a national project aiming to reduce injuries arising from the movement of goods from supplier through haulier to the recipient and end user.
