BRC and BSC to promote safety

BRC and BSC to promote safety
The British Safety Council (BSC) and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) are to work together to deliver higher standards of health and safety training across the retail sector.

By providing courses in areas such as practical health and safety management and environmental awareness and compliance, the two organisations hope to ensure the safety of staff across the industry.

The joint initiative will reward employees with industry recognised qualifications once they have reached the required level of training.

Brian Nimick, chief executive of the BSC, said that he was pleased the BRC was taking a serious attitude in ensuring the wellbeing of its people.

"It is great to see the British Retail Consortium take a proactive approach to the safety and wellbeing of its members' workforces. An informed and trained staff means that workplace injuries and illnesses can be reduced," he said.

The BRC represents the interests of businesses in the sector and aims to create a sustainable retail industry.
