Farming event 'to include manual handling training'
January 21, 2009

Kingston Maurward Agricultural College, with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), will hold the training course on February 19th.
The event, aimed at 16 to 30-year-olds, will cover a range of topics, including manual handling training, safe operation of telehandlers, machinery maintenance and working at height training.
Glenda Treneary, HSE organiser, commented: "We will have qualified trainers who are also farmers, so they will be able to demonstrate sensible practical ways of keeping safe from 'first-hand' experience."
She also explained that the event is designed to help young people take the health and safety training they have received in the classroom and help them understand how it can be put into practice.
Last week, the National Farmers' Union in the north-east lent its support to the HSE's Make The Promise, Come Home Safe campaign.
