HSE investigates straw-bale death

An Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation has been launched into the death of a haulage worker who was crushed under a straw bale, a source says.
Gary Darnell died earlier this week while removing a lorry's payload at Elean Power Station, Cambridge News reports.
A spokesman for the HSE says: "The man was hit by a straw bale that fell from a lorry while it was being unloaded."
He tells the news provider the organisation will be investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr Darnell's death, who was crushed beneath the 8 by 4 foot bale.
The site is owned by Energy Power Resources and chief executive Eddie Wilkinson claims the firm will be working closely with the HSE.
He says he will not comment on the case until an interim outcome of the investigation is announced.
Last month, the Press and Journal reported a man was crushed while unloading steel from a lorry at Simpsons Garden Centre in Inverness.
The HSE is investigating the accident.
