Authorities warn of forklift danger
September 17, 2008

Pedestrians and forklift trucks don't mix, according to the Forklift Truck Association (FLTA).
The group is running National Forklift Safety Week in an attempt to cut down on the number of accidents which take place this September during "the deadliest month of the year".
In another move to promote health and safety in the workplace, the FLTA is also holding a conference on the subject.
The Forklift Safety Awards, National Safety Conference and the National Forklift Truck Association will be held between September 22nd and 28th.
According to statistics, up to two-thirds of accidents kill or injure someone not driving the truck at the time - meaning visitors and other pedestrians.
Good health and safety working practice is also being encouraged, with operators being reminded to consider their levels of training, the safe operation of machinery, and to carry out proper inspections and maintenance.
Earlier this month, a court in Perth heard how maintenance engineer Kenneth Marshall was off work for more than a year as a result of an accident with a forklift truck, the Perthshire Advertiser reports.
