Firms 'need health and safety advice'
April 7, 2009

Research from Norwich Union Risk Services found that almost 40 per cent of UK firms are not getting the right advice on the issue, which may interest those considering risk assessment training.
Simon Cook, lead health and safety consultant for the organisation, pointed out that the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations place a legal obligation for workplaces to least one competent person to deal with this.
The individual must be qualified to provide advice on health and safety issues and be able to conduct risk assessments, he added.
Mr Cook continued: "Failing in the basic responsibilities of completing risk assessments means that firms are not aware of the hazards present on their premises and are not therefore managing them effectively."
Last month, the Health and Safety Executive pointed out that most accidents such as slips, trips and falls are avoidable if the right procedures are in place.
