5 Steps - Risk Assessment in your Workplace

Knauf pays GBP 7,000 after accident

Knauf pays GBP 7,000 after accident
A business has been fined £4,000 after an accident caused by health and safety breaches.

Knauf UK GMBH will also pay £3,204 in costs after one of its employees was injured whilst working at its site in Sittingbourne.

After removing guards to allow the cleaning of a machine's rollers at the firm's plasterboard manufacturing site, the machinery was activated and a worker's finger became caught.

No suitable risk assessment had been conducted and the employee's injuries were held to have affected his ability to perform tasks in his day-to-day life.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Jan Combs claims the company had not properly considered the importance of implementing policies regarding all areas of work activity.

"If a proper health and safety risk assessment had been carried out and acted upon this incident could have been avoided," he states.

Last month, Wilkin and Sons was fined £4,000 plus £2,855 in costs after an accident led to the severing of one of its worker's fingers.ADNFCR-1336-ID-18881946-ADNFCR
