Lack of risk assessment costs firm GBP 8,300
A manufacturing firm has been fined £5,000 after an injury was caused by an insufficient risk assessment.

GB Logan Fabrications will also pay £3,390 in costs after an employee fractured his foot in an accident.

Mico Tomic was carrying a spoil drawer when he tripped over a pallet and sustained the injury.

According to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Judith McNulty-Green the worker was only temporarily injured.

The firm also pleaded guilty to failing to reduce employees' noise exposure after an earlier warning from the HSE.

Ms McNulty-Green says: "On-going high noise levels [were found] which could potentially damage the hearing of the entire workforce."

No measures were taken to reduce the risks this presented despite the availability of advice on the issue from the HSE.

The organisation warned other companies failing to do this they could be liable for prosecution.

According to its statistics, one million employees in the UK are regularly exposed to noise levels which "put their hearing at risk".ADNFCR-1336-ID-18818869-ADNFCR
