New health and safety rules unveiled

April 8, 2009

New health and safety rules unveiled
Changes have been made to health and safety laws to make them easier to understand and follow.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that it has introduced a new, version of the health and safety laws poster which employers are obligated to display in the workplace.

In statement, the watchdog explained: "The new easy-to-read poster and pocket cards focuses on employees and sets out in simple terms what employers and workers must do, including when there is a problem."

In addition, the HSE has cut the amount of health and safety paperwork which businesses have to fill in by abolishing the requirement to register premises such as offices, shops and factories.

The Chemicals Hazard Information for Supply Regulations have also been updated to complement new European guidelines on classification, labelling and packaging of substances.

Earlier this year, the Health and Safety Offences Act and the Corporate Manslaughter Act were unveiled, leading law firm DWF to warn directors and senior managers to pay more attention to safety in the workplace.
