Welsh assembly wins award for health and safety

The Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) 18001 accolade has been obtained by the department for the economy and transport, eGovmonitor.co.uk says.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, deputy first minister and head of the department, tells the website it is the first time a Welsh government organisation has reached the standard.
He describes it as "the global benchmark" for health and safety.
The OHSMS standard has been formulated by trade unions and certification groups.
Mr Jones says the system his department has implemented promotes "a safe working environment for all our staff and visitors" in offices and development sites.
He tells eGovmonitor.co.uk the standard also helps identify risks and their management.
There will be annual assessment visits to ensure it is maintained, according to ISOQAR, a training provider.
BSi, an organisation that provides business assessments, says achieving OHSMS 18001 standard has the potential of reducing the cost of an organisation's public liability insurance.
