AoC Conference to explore health and safety issues in the FE sector
May 1, 2008

The Association of Colleges' (AoC) Annual National Health and Safety Conference is scheduled for June 19th and will examine both health and safety and environmental issues faced by the further education (FE) sector.
Contributing to the event will be the Department of Health, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Institute of Safety and Health amongst other safety bodies, FE colleges and businesses.
Aimed at health and safety managers and directors, estate managers and college governors, the conference will focus on the role health and safety has within FE and will do so through a series of workshops, knowledge-sharing and reviewing issues from the previous year.
The AoC claims that colleges need to ensure staff and students are kept safe and healthy and also that they need to reduce compensation payouts and satisfy inspections.
Recently, Bristol College was prosecuted by the HSE for a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
