Awareness day held for schools in Herefordshire
November 12, 2008

A health and safety awareness event is being held in Herefordshire for staff of the county's schools.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be running the day in order to identify and tackle those areas which offer the greatest problems to the education sector.
Focusing on slips and trips, asbestos issues and good practice when dealing with contractors, it is being held at Hedley Lodge in Belmont Abbey on November 19th.
The day will be run in conjunction with Herefordshire council's Schools Health and Safety Department.
Principal inspector for the HSE Harvey Wild claims 55 per cent of accidents in the sector are caused by slips or trips, with 90 per cent of the major incidents of this type resulting in broken bones.
"We will be advising schools of practical ways in which they can minimise risks of work-related accidents and illnesses," he insists.
A similar day is being held tomorrow (November 13th) in the other half of the former county of Hereford and Worcestershire, which was separated in 1998.
