Hospitality workshop focuses on slips and trips
December 2, 2008

A series of workshops targeted at those working in the Cornish hospitality industry have highlighted the risks of slips and trips.
Organised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authorities, asbestos, manual handling and working at height issues were also explored.
Tickets to the event sold out early and it involved external partners including SkidProof International, the NHS, Community Energy Plus and asbestos experts Quest.
Rob Pearce, the HSE's lead principal inspector for Devon and Cornwall, claims a third of workplace slips and trips originated from food-related industries including manufacturing, catering and hospitality.
"[They] can seem quite minor or humorous but can have serious effects, not just on the employee's life but on the employer," he states
An awareness day for school staff was recently held by the HSE in the county of Herefordshire.
It also focused on slips and trips, asbestos and dealings with contractors, with accidents due to the former contributing to more than half of all incidents reported in the sector.
