HSE announces details of new safety event
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced details of a forthcoming safety event to be held at the grounds of Manchester United Football Club.

Scheduled to be held on December 11th, the event is part of the HSE's Workplace Transport Campaign 2007 and will feature an introductory talk from the football club's health and safety manger, Keith McIntosh.

The event is intended to increase the awareness of risks associated with falls from vehicles, as part of the campaign's objective to reduce the number of injuries.

"Many falls from vehicles occur during loading and unloading - you don't have to fall far to land hard," said the HSE.

"Selecting the right sole for the surface and contamination type can prevent many slips. However, the wrong footwear can increase the risk of slips and trips," it added.

Every year, 2,000 individuals are seriously hurt as a consequence of a fall from a vehicle.
