April 29, 2008

Following the Tall Ship, Glenlee's public showing of support for the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) 'Shattered Lives' campaign, the safety body is urging other businesses to support the initiative.
The campaign was launched to highlight the seriousness of slips and trips at work in a bid to make companies more vigilant about the safety standards in their own workplaces.
According to the HSE, someone breaks or fractures a bone every 25 minutes as a result of a slip at work and inspector Gavin Howat believes the seriousness of these incidents can be underestimated.
"Slips, trips and falls can be viewed as being minor, funny accidents but the effects are not. We urge other employers to follow the lead of Tall Ship, Glenlee in supporting our 'Shattered Lives' campaign," he said.
Mr Howat also raised the issue of the cost to businesses that injuries have through factors such as absence and sick pay.
'Shattered Lives' is aimed at those most at risk from a falls at work such as construction workers, trades people and chefs.
