HSE launches investigation into crewman's death
An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency into the death of a crewman who became trapped in the hull of a ship, to see if any health and safety rules were breached.

Two men working on the Saga Rose ship, docked in Southampton, became trapped in the hull of the vessel, causing one of them to die through a lack of oxygen while the other was rescued by fire crews.

Paul Green, a spokesman for Saga, said a full investigation would be launched into the incident.

"There is going to be a full and independent investigation to find out the circumstances of the accident to ensure something like this never happens again," he stated.

Mr Green told the Yorkshire Post anyone wishing to enter that particular area of the ship would need written permission and to be accompanied by a safety officer, as it is an out of bounds area.

Saga cruises travel to destinations including the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and the Caribbean.
