Industrial estate spot checks
July 2, 2008

Industrial estates in the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire areas are to be subject to health and safety inspections.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has joined forces with local authorities in the two counties to carry out spot checks that will focus on issues surrounding workplace transport, falls from height, duty to manage asbestos and Legionella.
Letters will be sent to those sites selected for inspection, warning them they are to be analysed and offering advice on potential areas of concern.
HSE principal inspector Mike Gibb said firm action will be taken against companies failing to ensure workplace safety.
"We are targeting industrial estates as they can present a dangerous environment in which to work with a variety of health and safety risks particularly due to traffic movement in and around the site," he stated.
The inspections are due to begin on July 14th.
A series of recent spot checks by the HSE at construction sites in Newcastle led to four prohibition and two improvement notices being issued due to poor health and safety standards.
