Storm drain accident to be investigated

A subcontractor has fallen ten metres to his death in an accident at a Macclesfield business park, a source says.
He fell through a manhole to the bottom of a drain at a United Utilities site, CNplus.co.uk reports.
The man was working as a Morgan Est subcontractor on a storm water holding tank at the Lyme Green Business Park.
In response, the Health and Safety Executive is launching an investigation into the accident.
A spokeswoman for Morgan Est told the website the employee had been hired in relation to a clean water and waste water works contract with United Utilities.
"Safety is paramount at Morgan Est and we are greatly shocked and saddened that such a tragedy should have happened," she says.
"Until we have the results of the investigation, we cannot comment any further."
There has been an increase in the number of manhole covers being stolen for scrap metal, the Northern Echo has recently reported, with one council saying it has had 11,000 stolen in the last six months.
