TIE secures HSE applause

A health and safety watchdog is applauding an Edinburgh construction site for its track record, a source reveals.
Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (TIE) has recorded one accident since construction began on one of its sites in 2007, the Evening News reports.
Acclamation from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has arisen after the site has experienced 420,000 hours of construction work with only one incident occurring.
Talking to the news provider, HSE inspector Murray Provan states the organisation has worked closely with TIE to minimise the levels of risk its employees are presented with.
Among those problems dealt with have been machinery movement, electrical hazards and trip risks, he says.
Mr Provan says: "The work to build Edinburgh's new tram system is the biggest construction project in Edinburgh for many years."
He says this makes TIE's success even more commendable, as the project could potentially present serious risks.
According to the HSE, 2,800 people have died in accidents on construction sites in the last 25 years.
