Millions suffer injuries at work

New research has revealed nearly 12 million people in Britain incurred an injury or illness at work in the last year.

According to a study by insurer Royal and Sun Alliance (RSA), one quarter suffered back problems while four per cent experienced breathing problems and seven per cent claimed to incur a musculoskeletal disorder.

The number of people injured at work also has a significant effect on business the study suggests, with nearly one in five having taken between one and six months time away from work as a result.

Colin Bradbury, underwriting director at RSA, claims effective risk assessments and management are crucial for employers and staff.

"These figures show a significant number of injuries and illnesses are being incurred in the workplace … this highlights the importance of risk management in safeguarding employees' health and ensuring a productive workplace," he said.
