Firms urged to switch on stress radar
December 17, 2007

UK businesses have been advised to ensure they be alert for indications of rising stress levels among their employees during the festive period.
Workers - particularly those operating in the retail and hospitality industry - will be under higher levels of pressure than usual in the run-up to Christmas and the new year, according to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
As a result, employers should be aware of the signs of stress - such as tiredness, short-temperedness and loss of motivation - and look out for these among staff members, the organisation said.
"Remember to be particularly careful with any temporary workers you employ especially for the seasonal period. Ensure they are properly supervised and receive support from more experienced members of staff," IOSH president Ray Hurst commented.
National Stress Awareness Day took place last month to encourage employers and individuals to take a proactive approach to stress management.
