TFS award win partly due to safety training
Safety training has contributed to a company's success in winning an award for business health and safety.

Among other measures, Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) offered skills development to its staff.

The company has won the Healthy People Healthy Business Award from the Northumberland Care Trust.

Its health and safety policies included supporting staff, implementing strong and flexible procedures to cope with hazards and running campaigns to promote healthy living among its staff.

Workplace health specialist at the awarding body Maureen Shepherd describes the obtaining this as "a real achievement for business".

"[It] had to meet a broad range of criteria including … skills development," she explains.

The scheme is trying to recruit more firms into the competition and will allow any organisation employing more than five workers.

Ms Shepherd says: "There is access to advice, information and guidance from a wide range of healthcare and health and safety specialists."

TFS is a $10 billion (£5.76 billion) organisation which produces and sells laboratory equipment, software, services and solutions.ADNFCR-1336-ID-18814726-ADNFCR
