Calderbrook Estates and contractor fined
A company and contractor have been prosecuted after an incident which left a roofer with two broken heels.

Calderbrook Estates has been fined £2,500 plus costs of £3,355, whereas Michael Stephenson will pay a total of £3,500 for his breaches of the health and safety regulations governing working at height.

A roofer employed by Mr Stephenson fell four metres after his ladder became detached from the building.

The company had been cautioned previously due to the manner in which it conducted its business after it was found to be endangering workers.

Health and Safety Executive inspector David Welsh claims the incident could have caused life-threatening injuries.

"There were problems with work since the start of the job and none of them were dealt with in a suitable way," he states.

He adds: "Work at height must always be properly planned."

Earlier this week, E&J Joinery was fined £20,000 plus £11,895 in costs after an incident occurred to an employee working at height.ADNFCR-1336-ID-18874660-ADNFCR
