Nevis Range Development fined GBP 2,000

Nevis Range Development fined GBP 2,000
A firm and one of its workers have been prosecuted after an accident involving a cableway left five people seriously injured.

Nevis Range Development has been fined £2,000, while employee Kevin Byrne will pay £1,000 after both pleaded guilty to breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Inspector for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Douglas Conner described the case as complex for his organisation.

Emphasising the fact the incident could have led to a number of deaths, he suggests the company had not made sufficient effort to ensure its health and safety procedures were being followed.

"Latent failures in organisations such as poor communication and people's uncertainties about their roles or responsibilities can pose the same or even greater potential danger to health and safety as active failures," Mr Conner says.

An accident at Daylesford Organic Farm was described as preventable last month, with the victim's representatives, firm Irwin Mitchell, claiming if the company involved had enforced its own health and safety procedures, making sure these were followed, it would not have occurred.ADNFCR-1336-ID-18869930-ADNFCR
