Partnership to promote ladder health and safety
August 27, 2008

A county council has partnered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to promote awareness of ladder safety.
Doncaster county council will be launching Ladder Exchange 2008 to improve health and safety conditions for those working at height.
Small businesses are going to be given the option of having their ladders checked by professionals to ensure users are not at risk.
If one is found to be unsafe, the owner will be able to trade it in for a discounted replacement at local shops.
The campaign will start on September 1st and aims to reduce the number injured each year due to falls from damaged ladders.
According to HSE figures, these constitute one in three accidents that occur while working at height.
The campaign also intends to teach people the warning signs of when a ladder is damaged, such as loose rivets, rust or structural damage.
In an ongoing campaign named Shattered Lives, the HSE is trying to promote health and safety awareness about slips, trips and falls in the hope it will cause a reduction to the 1,000 accidents these result in a month.
